Barcelona have an immediate backup for Nelson Semedo who is on his way to Juventus in the coming summer transfer market on a possible swap deal

The rumours state that Nelson Semedo is on the way to Juventus this season in a swap deal that would see Miralem Pjanic and Mattia De Sciglio move to Barcelona.

More from Everything Barca

The former Benfica man has unfortunately faced severe bias decisions at the Camp Nou, despite performing consistently for the last three seasons, Sergi Roberto has been generally preferred as the first choice during crucial games while under Ernesto Valverde and Nelson Semedo still has not yet won Quique Setien’s confidence in the past few months.

The Portuguese right-back hopes that he would settle down better at Juventus with his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. The Old Lady of Turin value the services of Nelson Semedo very highly and the player has been promised a crucial role in the squad ahead of Danilo who was signed in the summer of 2019 in a swap deal that saw Joao Cancelo move to Manchester City.

However, Don Balon claims that although Nelson Semedo might depart anytime soon, Quique Setien has already arranged a substitute for the former Benfica right-back.

The player that Quique Setien has prepared has an immediate backup is his former pupil from Real Betis, Emerson Royal. The Brazilian was signed by Barcelona on a joint operation with Real Betis in 2019 as both the clubs split the transfer fee equally.

The Catalans have the option to bring their player back from Real Betis in 2021 for 6 million euros, however, if the Barca decides to sign him this summer then the current La Liga leaders would have to pay Real Betis 12 million euros instead.

Although Emerson Royal is not as good as Nelson Semedo while attacking, the Brazilian is an extremely composed defender on the flanks and his physicality makes it a lot harder for wingers to get past with ease. Quique Setien believes that the addition of Emerson Royal would be the first stepping zone to fix the poor defensive form that the Blaugrana have maintained this season.

Barcelona has finally acted smart rather than fishing for in the market and possibly carrying out another panic signing. The arrival of Emerson Royal would not only benefit the defense but it would also financially benefit the club’s recent condition.
