Arteta on the core of his Arsenal squad & his transfer plans
Mikel Arteta insists his focus is on improving his cast of Arsenal youngsters and finding the players to fit around the youthful core that is developing at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta named five players who were 23 or under for his side’s return to action against Manchester City on Wednesday night, whilst also introducing academy graduates Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles from the bench. The match ended in a brutal 3-0 drubbing but what few positives there were to be taken often involved the youngsters.
Kieran Tierney impressed on his first start for six months, Eddie Nketiah had several lively moments early in the match and Bukayo Saka offered some attacking threat from an unfamiliar position on the right wing.
Across the club Arsenal are determined to provide their bright young stars with a platform to impress and are conscious that further stars of the future are making their way through the academy, including Emile Smith Rowe, Tyreece John-Jules and Miguel Azeez.
