Manchester City are making a statement in the transfer market with Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake advancements.

Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain mean serious business in the transfer market, which was expected to be on a ruthless side for Manchester City after conceding the Premier League title to Liverpool by a whopping margin of 18 points.

Seeking a major reshuffle this summer, Manchester City’s rebuild plan hinged on the verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport(CAS) over their Financial Fair Play(FFP) sanctions from UEFA. Following the revoked European Ban and monetary punishment being reduced to 10 million euros, the Sky Blues have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of elite talents.

Losing out on Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich for a potential £54.8m, Man City bosses have reached consensus with Valencia for Spanish winger Ferran Torres in a deal worth £20.9m/€23m, rising to £31.8m/€35m via performance-related add-ons.

With no signs of stopping, Man City, now have reached an agreement to lure centre-back Nathan Ake to the Etihad Stadium from AFC Bournemouth, for a fee worth £40m with £1m in bonuses. Guardiola wants one more defender in his squad to fill the void created by Vincent Kompany’s departure last summer, with Kalidou Koulibaly being the revered target.

However, the deal is considered tough to crack following the souring relationship between City and Napoli over the transfer of Jorginho, who changed his mind just in the nick of time to seal a move to Chelsea back when they were Premier League champions. Villareal’s Pau Torres is envisaged as a fallback option for Guardiola.

Also, Manchester United, searching for an able partner for Harry Maguire, are keen to compete with their cross-town rivals over the next few centre-back options.

Who could be Guardiola’s next defensive signing?
