Many of Africa’s greatest players of all time got their hands on Africa’s club prize, with the likes of Mohamed Aboutrika, El-Hadary and Vincent Enyeama some of the Alcon qualifiers to have won the Caf Champions League.

However, no one can claim to have conquered the continent as often as Wael Gomaa.

As well as clinching three Africa Cup of Nations titles with Egypt, the centre-back also won the Caf CL on six occasions as part of a dominant Al-Ahly cycle.

Some may argue the defender sold himself short by not testing himself in Europe—despite a trial at Blackburn Rovers—but the centre-back will certainly be remembered as a true giant of the African game.
